A remarkably beautiful film by artist Gustav Deutsch entitled Shirley: Visions of Reality wherein he uses live-action actors and film to animate thirteen Edward Hopper paintings including New York Movie (1939), Office at Night (1940), Hotel Lobby (1943), Morning Sun (1952),Woman in the Sun (1961) and Chair Car (1965). He manages to retain the bleak flatness of Hopper’s masterpieces while imbuing his own film with mystery and pathos.
