A Celebration of Explosions
Maybe you’ve had your fill of fireworks by now but here is a series of images from New York photographer Thomas Prior who traveled to Tultepec, Mexico, a town whose main industry is the making of fireworks. The annual event is called the National Pyrotechnic Festival, which also celebrates and honors Saint Juan de la Dios – the patron saint of the city (and fireworks). The festival’s major draw is a “running of the bulls” that entails a seven hour parade of paper-mache bulls that contain thousands of fireworks that explode at various times throughout the parade. Certainly this sort of thing would never be allowed to happen in the US. I’m sure the lawyers and insurance companies might object.
